MLB Prospect Power Rankings: Top 10 Prospects at Each Position in 2025
0 of 8
- Potential:Potential trumps production a lot of the time, especially in the lower levels of the minors and with recent draft picks. Skill set and tools are often better indicators of what kind of player someone will be.
- Talent:For those in the higher levels of the minors who are close to breaking into the big leagues, production and talent level were the determining factors since the players are viewed as more complete products.
- Eligibility:A player must maintain rookie eligibility to be considered for inclusion. That means no more than 130 big league at-bats for position players, 50 innings for pitchers or 45 days on the active roster.

A Top 100 prospect list does not always provide sufficient context for where an up-and-coming player stands among his peers at the same position on the field.
Ahead, we've provided a rundown of the top 10 prospects at each position, with outfielders all lumped into one group and pitchers split into right-handed and left-handed.
The following factors helped determine where each player fell in our rankings:
With all of that established, let's start with the catchers.

Top 10 C Prospects
1. Samuel Basallo, BAL
2. Ethan Salas, SD
3. Kyle Teel, CWS
4. Moises Ballesteros, CHC
5. Dalton Rushing, LAD
6. Jeferson Quero, MIL
7. Harry Ford, SEA
8. Drake Baldwin, ATL
9. Edgar Quero, CWS
10. Blake Mitchell, KC
-It remains to be seen how Samuel Basallo fits into the Orioles' plans with Adley Rutschman entrenched at catcher, but he should be ready for his first MLB action in 2025. The 20-year-old hit .278/.341/.449 with 25 doubles, 19 home runs and 65 RBI in 127 games between Double-A and Triple-A, and he started 31 games at first base to add some defensive versatility.
-The White Sox now have two of baseball's best catching prospects in Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero, and they were both acquired via trade, with Teel coming over in the Garrett Crochet deal and Quero acquired in exchange for Lucas Giolito at the 2023 deadline.
-After a breakout 2024, Drake Baldwin hit .377/.452/.491 over 62 plate appearances in the Arizona Fall League. He could get a long look for an Opening Day roster spot after Travis d'Arnaud had his club option declined.

2. Jac Caglianone, KC
3. Bryce Eldridge, SF
4. Nick Kurtz, OAK
5. Ralphy Velazquez, CLE
6. Tyler Black, MIL
7. Ryan Clifford, NYM
8. Deyvison De Los Santos, MIA
9. Tre' Morgan, TB
10. Tyler Locklear, SEA
-One of the most promising offensive prospects in baseball, Xavier Isaac hit .264/.370/.480 with 21 doubles, 18 home runs and 78 RBI in 102 games between High-A and Double-A in his age-20 season. He capped things off by posting a .957 OPS with nine extra-base hits in 15 games in the Arizona Fall League.
-After three years of raking at Wake Forest, Nick Kurtz hit .368/.520/.763 over 50 plate appearances in his pro debut, closing out the year at Double-A. The No. 4 overall pick in last year's draft could be ready for the majors before 2025 is over.
-There is a good chance Deyvison De Los Santos will be on Miami's Opening Day roster, either as the starting first baseman or designated hitter. The Marlins are sorely lacking in impact bats, and he is coming off a 2024 season in which he logged a .914 OPS with 40 home runs and 120 RBI in 137 games in the upper minors.

Top 10 2B Prospects
1. Kristian Campbell, BOS
2. Travis Bazzana, CLE
3. Christian Moore, LAA
4. Luke Keaschall, MIN
5. James Triantos, CHC
6. Michael Arroyo, SEA
7. Juan Brito, CLE
8. Adael Amador, COL
9. Demetrio Crisantes, ARI
10. Termarr Johnson, PIT
-Kristian Campbell was the biggest breakout prospect of the 2024 season, hitting .330/.439/.558 with 55 extra-base hits and 24 steals while reaching Triple-A a year after he was taken in the fourth round of the 2023 draft. He should get a long look for the starting second base job this spring.
-Another prospect who could break camp with a starting job is Juan Brito following Cleveland's decision to trade Andrés Giménez. The 23-year-old hit .256/.365/.443 with 40 doubles, 21 home runs, 84 RBI and 13 steals in 144 games at Triple-A.
-Will this be the year things finally click for Termarr Johnson? He has a .390 on-base percentage and 18.6 percent walk rate over three minor league seasons, but has yet to showcase the elite hit tool that made him the No. 4 pick in the 2022 draft.

Top 10 3B Prospects
1. Coby Mayo, BAL
2. Matt Shaw, CHC
3. Brady House, WAS
4. Jace Jung, DET
5. Brayden Taylor, TB
6. Cam Smith, HOU
7. Cam Collier, CIN
8. Tommy White, OAK
9. Charles McAdoo, TOR
10. Mike Boeve, MIL
-Despite going 4-for-41 with 22 strikeouts in his first taste of the big leagues last season, Coby Mayo still has an extremely high offensive ceiling. The 23-year-old hit .287/.364/.562 with 23 doubles, 22 home runs and 67 RBI in 89 games at Triple-A last season, and he could be the long-term replacement for Ryan Mountcastle, who is a free agent after the 2026 season.
-The Cubs' decision to include Isaac Paredes in the blockbuster deal to acquire Kyle Tucker has given Matt Shaw a clear path to win the starting third base job this spring. The No. 13 overall pick in the 2023 draft had a great first full professional season and then spent the offseason starring for Team USA in the Premier12 tournament.
-Brady House and Jace Jung could also break camp with starting jobs, depending on whether their respective teams make any outside additions at the hot corner. The Tigers continue to be linked to Alex Bregman, and signing him would likely make Jung a trade candidate.

Top 10 SS Prospects
1. Carson Williams, TB
2. Marcelo Mayer, BOS
3. Jordan Lawlar, ARI
4. Jacob Wilson, OAK
5. Leodalis De Vries, SD
6. JJ Wetherholt, STL
7. Colt Emerson, SEA
8. Sebastian Walcott, TEX
9. Kevin McGonigle, DET
10. Aidan Miller, PHI
-Carson Williams is arguably the best defensive shortstop prospect in baseball, but he also profiles as an impact offensive player after hitting .256/.353/.469 with 20 doubles, 20 home runs, 69 RBI and 33 steals in 115 games at Double-A. The 21-year-old should join Junior Caminero on the left side of the Tampa Bay infield in short order.
-Leodalis De Vries and Sebastian Walcott are two of the most hyped international prospects of the last five years, and both held their own against much older competition in 2024. They have the potential to be top 10 prospects in the sport by this time next year.
-Aside from the 10 players listed above, there are 13 other shortstops included on the B/R Top 100 prospect list: Colson Montgomery (CWS), Jett Williams (NYM), Cole Young (SEA), Cooper Pratt (MIL), Starlyn Caba (MIA), Konnor Griffin (PIT), Arjun Nimmala (TOR), Bryce Rainer (DET), Felnin Celesten (SEA), Brice Matthews (HOU), Angel Genao (CLE), Franklin Arias (BOS) and Alex Freeland (LAD).

2. Dylan Crews, WAS
3. Walker Jenkins, MIN
4. Jasson Dominguez, NYY
5. Max Clark, DET
6. Emmanuel Rodriguez, MIN
7. Charlie Condon, COL
8. Lazaro Montes, SEA
9. Justin Crawford, PHI
10. Josue De Paula, LAD
-There is a good chance Roman Anthony will start the 2025 season as the consensus No. 1 prospect in baseball. The 20-year-old has a 55-hit, 60-power offensive profile, and he hit .291/.396/.498 with 32 doubles, 18 home runs and 65 RBI in 119 games as one of the youngest players in the upper levels of the minors.
-The Twins have a dynamic prospect duo in Walker Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez, and despite the fact that they are only 19 and 21 years old, respectively, it is not out of the question to think both could see the majors in 2025.
-Aside from the 10 players listed above, there are 10 other outfielders currently included on the B/R Top 100 prospect list: Owen Caissie (CHC), Braden Montgomery (CWS), Chase DeLauter (CLE), Jaison Chourio (CLE), Jacob Melton (HOU), Colby Thomas (OAK), Chandler Simpson (TB), Henry Bolte (OAK), Robert Calaz (COL) and Spencer Jones (NYY).

Top 10 RHP Prospects
1. Jackson Jobe, DET
2. Rhett Lowder, CIN
3. Chase Dollander, COL
4. Kumar Rocker, TEX
5. Jacob Misiorowski, MIL
6. Tink Hence, STL
7. Bubba Chandler, PIT
8. Andrew Painter, PHI
9. Cade Horton, CHC
10. Brandon Sproat, NYM
-Jackson Jobe, Rhett Lowder and Kumar Rocker all made their MLB debuts during the stretch run last season, and all three should have a shot at winning a rotation spot this spring after flashing top-of-the-rotation upside.
-On the flip side, Andrew Painter and Cade Horton are both coming off injury-plagued campaigns. Painter missed the entire 2023 and 2024 seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery before winning Pitcher of the Year in the Arizona Fall League, while Horton missed significant time with a lat strain.
-All five NL Central teams have elite right-handed pitching prospects, and it will be interesting to see how that collection of arms impacts the division race in the coming years once they all reach the big leagues.

Top 10 LHP Prospects
1. Noah Schultz, CWS
2. Quinn Mathews, STL
3. Hagen Smith, CWS
4. Thomas White, MIA
5. Jackson Ferris, LAD
6. Cam Caminiti, ATL
7. Kash Mayfield, SD
8. Samuel Aldegheri, LAA
9. Ricky Tiedemann, TOR
10. Robby Snelling, MIA
-Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith represent the future of the White Sox starting rotation, and both southpaws possess ace-caliber upside with swing-and-miss stuff and the durability to hold up to a starter's workload. They were born just a few weeks apart in August 2003.
-The first two high school pitchers selected in the 2024 draft class were Cam Caminiti and Kash Mayfield, selected back-to-back at No. 24 and No. 25 overall. The Braves and Padres both have a solid track record of developing pitching prospects, so they could steadily climb these rankings in the coming years.
-The Dodgers acquired Jackson Ferris last offseason in the deal that sent Michael Busch to the Cubs, and after posting a 3.20 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 145 strikeouts in 126.2 innings between High-A and Double-A, he enters 2025 as the top pitching prospect in a deep farm system.
